eCommerce Site Design: 7 Things Your Site Needs

November 19, 2019

We do almost everything online now, including shopping. There has never been a better time to be in eCommerce, and the future for online selling looks bright. If you are ready to join the online marketplace, here are 7 things your eCommerce site design needs.

eCommerce Site Design 7 Things Your Site Needs

Branding

Consumers want to buy from sites that they trust. A generic site with little to no branding will make shoppers uneasy. You need to determine what your brand is, what it looks like, and what makes your store stand out. Make sure your eCommerce site reflects who you are as a brand.

High-Quality Images

Pictures sell. Images that are too small or pixelated will not convey the quality of your products or services. Make sure your listings include multiple well lit, clear photos that show the product from several angles or the variety of services your business offers.

Scannable Product Descriptions

When consumers visit your site, they scan the written text briefly to see if the product is what they are looking for. Make sure that your product descriptions open with a brief, to the point description. Potential buyers will see these as they scan the information on your site. You can add a “read more” option to open up more details about the product.

Consumers want an eCommerce site that is easy to navigate. Make sure that your site’s design has easy to find categories and makes the process of shopping online hassle-free. The more times a visitor has to click to find the product or information they need, the less likely they are to stick around.

Clear Price Placement

Consumers at all price points are budget conscious. They want to know how much a product or service will cost, so make that information clear and easy to find. The price could be displayed in a larger font or different color from the text to make it easy to see. Another popular option is to place the price directly above the “Buy It” button for purchasing.

Easy Checkout

A check out process that is a hassle can cost you. Make sure that your checkout page is clear and easy to navigate. Give visitors the option of registering or checking out as a guest. Shipping options and prices should be easy to understand. Taxes, if applicable, should also be shown.

Ratings and Reviews

People are social and rely heavily on ratings and reviews to decide whether or not to make a purchase. Positive comments and reviews from other consumers can help nudge an undecided buyer towards completing the transaction. Also, give people the option to share your products on social media by adding buttons to your site.

Now that you know what your eCommerce site design needs you can start planning your online business.
