The Best Video Conference Options for Those That Work from Home

March 24, 2020

Working from home is currently the new norm, and fortunately there are many ways to bring your work team together virtually. Accommodate remote working without sacrificing productivity when you utilize one of the many video conference options available. These are the best free and paid options for those working from home to consider.

Video Conference options for working from home

Zoom

Zoom is a widely used video conferencing application that works on a variety of platforms. Their site is packed with instructional videos to help newcomers learn how to get started. The free service is great for one-on-one meetings, but it can also accommodate groups up to 100. Zoom also offers a variety of paid tiers to meet other video conferencing needs.

Google

This service offers two options: Google Hangouts is a free platform, and Google Hangouts Meet is the paid version. Google Hangouts is a long running application that is only available to those with a Gmail address. Their newer service is Google Hangouts Meet, with three levels to choose from. The paid service is geared towards business clients and provides a web app experience, meaning that there is no software to download.

GoToMeeting

GoToMeeting is a paid service that offers audio and video sharing, as well as screen sharing. This service is more mobile friendly than many of its competitors, giving them a slight advantage. You can set up and start a conference using your smartphone, which is convenient for many.

BlueJeans

Headquartered in California, BlueJeans is a cloud based video conferencing platform. There are several pricing tiers, and while there is no free tier they do offer a 30-day free trial. Their video quality is excellent, making them worth checking out.

Lifesize

One of the top rated video conferencing platforms is Lifesize. In their own words, they are “obsessed” with providing the most high quality video conferencing experience available. Their service is utilized by teams such as Disney and Toyota. Lifesize has a free option as well as varying paid options.

Skype

You probably are already familiar with Skype, Microsoft’s popular video chat tool. The service is offered as an app and to use in a browser, which makes it easy to chat with people who do not have the app. There is a screen sharing option, as well as an option to blur backgrounds. Skype is free to use, but those users who want a little more from their video conferencing platform can also take a look at Skype for Business, the paid for upgrade.

Managing a team requires being very flexible, and adapting to changing circumstances is pushing many teams to new limits. Luckily, there are many video conference options that are easy to utilize to keep teams together, even when they have to physically be apart.
