THE STORY BEHIND HMG.
Houndstooth Media Group wasn’t part of a grand plan.
It started at a dining room table.

THE UNEXPECTED BEGINNING.
After a career in public affairs and government relations, Vivienne Wagner became a stay-at-home mom and started a blog as a creative outlet. It was simply a place to write, share stories, and connect with other people online.
What she didn’t expect was that it would become an education in how people discover information.
As the blog grew, so did her curiosity. She began paying attention to which posts attracted visitors, how people found her content, and why some topics gained traction
while others didn’t.
Before long, she had built an audience and was generating revenue through advertising, partnerships, and sponsored content.
The experience revealed something that would ultimately shape her career:
VISIBILITY HAS VALUE.
Bloggers don’t sell products. They don’t provide services. They create content. When that content is relevant, useful, and easy to find, people show up.
Long before AI entered the conversation, Vivienne was learning firsthand how search works and why being discoverable matters.
One Client. Then Another.
In 2013, a friend in luxury real estate asked her to ghostwrite a weekly blog. What began as a small writing project quickly evolved into something much larger.
As she became more involved, it became clear that the brokerage wasn’t fully leveraging the digital tools available to them.
Vivienne developed a proposal to help modernize their marketing efforts, and over the next six months rebuilt the firm’s marketing department from the ground up.
Word spread. One agent referred another. Then another. Businesses began referring colleagues and friends.
What started as a side project at the dining room table gradually became a business.

The Best Businesses Aren’t Built Alone.
Today, Houndstooth Media Group is a boutique agency with a team of specialists serving businesses across the country.
While the company has grown significantly, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: the vast majority of new clients still come through referrals and word of mouth.
That isn’t accidental.
Trust Before Tactics.
From the beginning, HMG has been built on a simple belief that trust matters more than a sale.
The marketing industry has no shortage of jargon, shiny objects, and one-size-fits-all solutions. Houndstooth has always taken a different approach.
Rather than selling tactics, the team focuses on helping business owners make informed decisions.
Sometimes that means recommending a new initiative. Sometimes it means explaining why a business should wait, stay the course, or invest elsewhere first.

Every Business is Different.
Every challenge is different. While many organizations need the same foundational elements—clear messaging, strong content, and a solid SEO strategy—the right solution is rarely identical from one client to the next.

At its core, HMG exists to help businesses answer three fundamental questions:
Who are you?
What do you do?
Who do you do it for?
When those answers are clear and consistent, businesses become easier to find, easier to understand, and easier to recommend.
That was true when search engines were the primary gatekeepers of information. It’s true now as AI reshapes how people discover and evaluate businesses.
The tools may change, but the mission remains the same: helping good businesses become visible to the people who need them.
That’s the idea that started at a dining room table, and it’s still what drives Houndstooth today.
