Weebly vs WordPress: The Key Differences

November 5, 2019

Weebly vs WordPress: what are the key differences? These website building platforms each have their strengths and weaknesses. Let’s take a closer look at how they compare to each other.

Weebly vs. WordPress_ The Key Differences

Ease of Use

Weebly is a “drag and drop” website builder, which makes it simple for beginners to start a site. After you create a Weebly account and choose a theme, you can start making your site. You choose the elements you want to use (such as photos and text boxes) by clicking on them and placing them in the desired location on the page.

WordPress has multiple plugins and themes that will give users the “drag and drop” capability that Weebly has, but there are a few more steps to take to get to that point. You will need to purchase a domain name and website hosting before you can install WordPress. Once that is done you can add themes and plugins.

Pricing

Weebly has pricing plans that range from $5-$25 per month, paid annually. The features vary based on which plan you choose, but all include a free domain. Weebly also has a free website builder as well.

WordPress is free to use. Expenses will vary based on your website host and domain registration. There are many free themes and plugins to choose from with WordPress, too. Depending on which host and extras you choose, WordPress can be the less expensive of the two options.

Customization

The key difference between Weebly vs. WordPress is customization. While Weebly does offer the “drag and drop” feature, you are still limited by what their system lets you do. It is not an open-ended platform, so you can only use the features that their team makes available to you.

WordPress, on the other hand, gives you complete freedom to design your site. If you are proficient with HTML code you can do anything, but even if you are not there are themes and plugins to choose from. Tens of thousands of free plugins, plus many premium plugins, will make it easy for you to customize your site as you see fit.

SEO

When it comes to SEO, both sites are crawled by search engine bots and can be indexed. WordPress SEO nudges ahead slightly thanks to superior plugins like Yoast SEO, which offers suggestions for ways to optimize your page.

In the debate over Weebly vs WordPress, there is a clear winner. While both are website building platforms, they have key differences. The biggest difference is that WordPress lets you have more control and ownership over your site design. This makes WordPress the best choice for most users.
